Nature has always been a friend to us, giving us everything we need to live — fresh air, water, food, shelter, and even the beauty that makes life joyful. But here’s a question we often forget to ask: have we ever been nature’s best friend?
Sadly, the answer is often no. Deforestation, pollution, plastic waste, and climate change are signs that we have taken more than we give back. World Environmental Health Day, observed every year on September 26th, is a reminder that the health of our environment and our own health are deeply connected.
🌱 How Our Health Is Connected to Nature
-
Clean Air = Healthy Lungs
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give us oxygen. Cutting them down means cutting down our own breath of life. -
Clean Water = Healthy Body
When rivers and lakes are polluted, the water we drink becomes unsafe, causing disease. -
Green Spaces = Healthy Mind
Studies show spending time in nature reduces stress, boosts mood, and improves focus — especially in children. -
Healthy Soil = Healthy Food
Pollution and chemical use damage soil, which in turn affects the nutrition in the food we eat.
When nature suffers, we suffer. When nature thrives, so do we.
♻️ The Power of the 3Rs
One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to care for the environment (and ourselves) is by practicing the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
-
Reduce: Say no to plastic bags, avoid wasting electricity, and buy only what you need.
-
Reuse: Repurpose jars, containers, or even paper for crafts and activities.
-
Recycle: Sort waste and recycle paper, plastic, and metal to prevent them from polluting land and water.
Teaching kids the 3Rs at an early age creates habits that last a lifetime — habits that protect both nature and human health.
Steps Kids and Parents Can Take Together
Here are some simple, everyday steps families can practice to protect nature:
-
Plant a Tree Together 🌳 – Every family can nurture at least one plant or tree at home.
-
Carry Reusable Bags & Bottles 🛍️ – Show kids how small swaps reduce plastic waste.
-
Conserve Energy 💡 – Switch off lights and fans when not needed; turn this into a fun family challenge.
-
Save Water 🚿 – Encourage kids to take shorter showers and close taps tightly.
-
Walk or Cycle More 🚲 – A healthy habit for both nature and our bodies.
-
Segregate Waste at Home 🗑️ – Teach children the importance of separating recyclables.
Teaching Kids Through Stories: Little Green Defenders
At Majestic Book Club, we believe stories are the best teachers. That’s why we created Little Green Defenders — a 10-book set designed especially for kids.
Through beautifully illustrated stories, children learn about:
-
The dangers of deforestation 🌳
-
The effects of air and water pollution 💧
-
The importance of recycling and conservation ♻️
-
How small everyday actions can make a big difference 🌍
These books gently show kids the effects of man-made destruction on nature while inspiring them to become protectors of the planet.

Be Nature’s Best Friend
This World Environmental Health Day, let’s remind ourselves that we share a deep bond with nature. Protecting the environment is not a favour we do for the planet — it’s a responsibility we take for our own health and for the future of our children.
By teaching kids to love and care for nature through stories, activities, and habits like the 3Rs, we can raise a generation of little green defenders ready to make the world a healthier, happier place.
Because when we become nature’s best friend, nature will always remain ours.
